GLOSSARY:

EPA—United States Environmental Protection Agency which is an agency of the United States federal government created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress.

NPL—The National Priorities List- the EPA’s list of the most hazardous waste sites in the United States eligible for long-term cleanup financed under the federal Superfund program.

Superfund—The common name for the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA), a United States federal law designed to clean up sites contaminated with hazardous substances.

VOC’s—Volatile Organic Compounds. Many VOCs are dangerous to human health or cause harm to the environment.
